Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Dr. David Shulkin is joining the company’s board.
This morning Eleos Health, a company that uses AI-backed voice technology to gather insights into behavioral health, scored $6 million in seed funding. aMoon Fund led the round with participation from lool ventures, Arkin Holdings, Geingels and individual investors.
The funding news coincides with the company’s announcement that Dr. David Shulkin, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, has joined the company’s board.
The Israeli company created a tool that uses voice AI capabilities to help mental health professionals analyze their patients. Clinicians can run the technology in the background of a mental health session.
The system is then able to analyze the session based on “hundreds of data parameters” and in turn give clinicians more insights and information about the patient, and in turn help personalize care. Additionally, the tech can auto-generate notes and a full transcription.
The service is available for clinicians to use in a brick-and-mortar setting or in the company’s built-in telehealth product. According to the company, the service can be integrated with the provider’s EHR.
“Eleos is innovating by leveraging unstructured, de-identified voice data, together with standardized EMR data to deliver a solution that was built with the clinician’s workflow in mind, and demonstrate real world results,” Shulkin said in a statement.
With an eye on growth, the company is looking to use the new cash to expand its sales, marketing and product delivery team. The company said the team expansion will help it meet the demand of new clients.
“Eleos Health is powering the future of evidence-based behavioral health at a time where we see a dramatic increase in the demand for behavioral care services,” Roy Wiesner, managing director at aMoon Fund, said in a statement.
“Therapy sessions have remained a black box, while other therapeutic areas have undergone a data-driven revolution. Eleos seeks to change that and is already deploying at scale. The founders and leadership team are mission driven, have built a sophisticated solution and are delivering on the promise of helping reduce caregiver burnout alongside providing clinical insights, thereby improving access and quality of care.”
Today AI-backed voice technology is being used in a number of different ways in the medical community. In August, Kintsugi, a platform that uses vocal biomarkers to help detect conditions like anxiety and depression, raised $8 million in seed funding.
Additionally Minstrong landed $100 million in Series C funding for its platform that includes a digital biomarker component.
Meanwhile, Palo Alto, California-based Robin created an AI-enabled workflow management tool. The tool looks similar to an Amazon Alexa or Google Home and, like Eleos, can run in the background of patient visits. The tech can also take notes on the visit.
