Francis Medical has published the initial report of its VAPOR 2 pivotal clinical study in The Journal of Urology, showcasing highly positive results for its Vanquish Water Vapor Ablation System. The trial evaluated the first 110 patients diagnosed with localized, intermediate-risk prostate cancer across 26 U.S. clinical sites. The minimally invasive, transurethral procedure uses convective thermal water vapor to deliver sterile steam directly into targeted prostate tissue, causing cancer cell death while remaining safely confined within natural tissue boundaries.

The published clinical data revealed a 91% clearance rate of targeted, MRI-visible tumors after a single treatment, with zero device-related serious adverse events reported. Crucially, the system demonstrated a unique ability to effectively destroy lesions in anatomically challenging locations that have historically limited other focal therapies. Furthermore, the therapy achieved a 93% patient satisfaction rate due to its low impact on surrounding structures, resulting in exceptionally low rates of urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
With prostate cancer affecting one in eight men in the United States, the demand for effective treatments that preserve quality of life is growing rapidly as the population ages. Francis Medical plans to continue monitoring the study’s participants for up to five years post-procedure. The long-term data gathered from this ongoing tracking will be used to support a future Pre-Market Approval (PMA) submission to the FDA, aiming to expand the system’s official indications for managing localized prostate cancer.
