Siemens Healthineers announced that it received FDA clearance for its 70cm bore Magnetom Flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) platform.

The 1.5T platform features a closed helium circuit and no quench pipe, which reduces helium dependency and annual energy consumption. Siemens Healthineers said this aims to reduce helium dependency and annual energy consumption. The upgradeable platform covers the entire range of MR applications.

Magnetom Flow offers image reconstruction based on AI for shorter scan times with improved image quality. It marks the second virtually helium-free 1.5T MR platform from Siemens Healthineers, following the Magnetom Flow Ace.

Siemens Healthineers said its Magnetom Flow platform requires just 0.7 liters of liquid helium for cooling. This compares to conventional MRI scanners that typically require more than 1,000 liters, the company says. Magnetom Flow features DryCool technology, which can lower costs and conserve resources by removing the need for helium refills. The lack of a quench pipe, along with its compact size, can reduce installation requirements and costs compared to other 1.5T MR scanners.

AI used by the system supports automated workflows, including new cardiac workflows that simplify and standardize the setup of scan parameters. Deep Resolve 2D and 3D image reconstruction enables accelerated image acquisition, removes noise and improves sharpness. Siemens Healthineers also offers adaptive, automated strategies for simplifying complex scans.
