Dornier MedTech America announced the full U.S. commercial launch of two single-use devices, the Dornier Hoover Flexible and Navigable Suction Ureteral Access Sheath and the Dornier Axis II Slim ureteroscope.
Both devices had already received FDA clearance and were in limited release before the full U.S. launch. The Hoover sheath provides continuous irrigation, suction and instrument exchange, while the Axis II Slim, with a 5.6 Fr. distal tip, offers tight access and maneuverability for flexible ureteroscopy procedures.
Dornier designed the devices to work with its Thulio pulsed Thulium:YAG laser, enabling urologists to visualize, fragment and remove kidney stones in a single procedure. During laser lithotripsy, the Hoover sheath removes dust and fragments immediately to maintain visibility and reduce procedural time.

In vitro studies published in the World Journal of Urology found that the Hoover sheath outperformed other devices of the same size in terms of suction performance and provided superior deflection for navigating complex kidney anatomy.
Key features include suction efficiency, improved deflection even with instruments in place, and the Axis II Slim’s 5.6 Fr. tip, which allows for reliable access to lower pole calyces.
“Dornier MedTech America has a deep understanding of urological workflows and urologists’ needs. The Dornier Hoover delivers best-in-class suction performance and Dornier Axis II Slim offers best-in-class deflection—giving urologists a proven competitive edge in the operating theater,” CEO Brock Faulkner said in a news release. “With the 5.6 Fr. tip, the Dornier Axis II Slim sets a new benchmark for ureteroscope access, and together with Dornier Thulio, these devices form the ultimate 3-in-1 integrated urology solution for advanced stone procedures.”
Dornier said the Hoover sheath, Axis II Slim and Thulio laser together create an integrated system for stone treatment and clearance.
