PocDoc has secured a CE mark for its AI driven digital reader of lateral flow tests. The cloud-based system allows any smartphone or tablet to become a digital reader of lateral flow tests and has been recorded as having over 98% accuracy.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the value of using lateral flow testing at scale and PocDoc’s platform is a cost-effective solution to digitise and verify the test results, store the data, and integrate it back into healthcare systems with full end-to-end traceability so it can be analysed and acted upon in real-time.

PocDoc’s platform and accompanying smartphone app will allow any healthcare organisation to roll out lateral flow testing for any disease or marker at scale.

This technology has huge applications in the developing world where the nearest pathology lab could be thousands of miles away from localised disease outbreaks.

Developed out of its smartphone blood testing platform, this technology has been trialled on COVID-19 tests throughout the pandemic. It is now part of a major polio eradication programme with the global NGO PATH which will be deployed in polio-outbreak risk areas in the coming months.

Roger Peck, senior program officer, PATH Diagnostics, said: “We are thrilled to partner with PocDoc to enable digital infrastructure that will support broader polio eradication efforts. Improved access to screening will strengthen polio eradication efforts by equipping communities with the necessary tools to identify undiagnosed cases of primary immunodeficiency diseases and thereby limit prolonged shedding of vaccine-derived polio virus into the community.”

Steve Roest, PocDoc CEO & co-founder added: “We are delighted to receive a CE mark for our AI driven digital reader platform. We truly believe that the answer to many global diseases is to make diagnostics more accessible and affordable by combining lateral flow tests with the PocDoc platform and app. This allows healthcare organisations to scale diagnostic testing at a fraction of the price of laboratory testing in areas that may be thousands of miles from the nearest testing lab.’’

PocDoc is backed by the NHS Digital Accelerator as “HealthTech set to transform the NHS,” has a strategic partnership with the University of East Anglia and has recently announced investment from two top-tier VC funds, MMC Ventures and Forward Partners.

This announcement underlines PocDoc’s ongoing mission to deliver accessible and affordable diagnostics for major diseases across the globe.
